• Ľudovít Štúr was the leader of the Slovak national revival in the 19th century, Slovak poet, journatlist, teacher, publisher, philosopher, the author of the Slovak language standard leading to the contemporary Slovak literary language
• many memorial places in Modra are connected with his life, death and work, as he lived his last years in Modra: the Museum of Ľudovít Štúr with the Memorial room of Ľudovít Štúr, the Statue of Ľudovít Štúr on the town square, his grave on Modra` cemetery, and some more

• other places worth sightseeing are German and Slovak Evangelical churches in Dolná Street, Roman Catholic Church of St. Stephen the King on the square, residuum of the former fortifications, the Upper gate (the only preserved one of the three original town gates), Town Hall, Gallery of Ignác Bizmayer (it is seated in a rotund bastion from 17th century and presents the unique figural ceramic production of this master)
